Critical changes to New Jersey’s Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP) will take effect beginning August 1, 2025. These changes will directly impact both Boys & Girls Clubs and families that rely on these benefits, which include co-payment increases and a pause on new applications.
The NJ Division of Family Development, Office of Child Care recently announced that because of a challenging budget environment the Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP), will be closed for families to enroll new children in the program after July 31, 2025. Additional impacts include an increasing parent co-pay, with most family’s full-time co-pays being 6% of a family’s income.
While CCAP did receive an $80 million increase, the final New Jersey state budget did not include an additional $30 million needed to fully fund CCAP. Without this funding there is now an additional financial burden on families with children. For Boys & Girls Clubs, nearly 6,000 youth and families currently utilize the CCAP program to ensure their children have a safe place to be during afterschool and summer months.
Even though the budget is finalized, sharing your stories and concerns with legislators can help us advocate for increased access to this program. Please contact your state Assembly members and Senators today to let them know how these changes affect your program, your staff and the families you serve.
